Lines’ Night of Promise Ends in Disappointment PDF Print E-mail

Debuting a brand-new J&J, Steve Lines left last Saturday night’s sixth round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship at Speedway City in Adelaide, South Australia with mixed emotions.

Lines couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the night when he topped the time sheets in qualifying time trials. Lines followed up his good qualifying result by finishing his two heat races eighth and third after starting from the back of the field.

In the dash, that decided the starting positions for the feature race, Lines finished in third place and that saw him start the 30-lap feature race out of position five.

At the start of the feature race it was a bit chaotic and it was unfortunately Lines that came out the major loser in all of it and consequently dropped back to 11th place. With a lot of hard work ahead of him Lines charged his way back up to as high as seventh. In the closing stages the right rear tyre on Lines’ # 45 Camden Neon Signs backed J&J started to deflate and this saw him finish back in a disappointing 10th place.

“Our end result certainly wasn’t a clear indication of how well the car performed,” stated Lines. “Straight out of the box the car was great and our quick time in qualifying proved that. We kept out of trouble in our heat races and the dash and we were looking good for the feature race. The feature race didn’t start well for us and we dropped down the field. Although we fought our way back in the feature race but a deflating tyre in the closing laps dropped us down the field at the finish.”

The current South Australian champion was thrilled with the debut performance of his new J&J despite the disappointing finish to the night.

“I feel that we have made a step in the right direction with bringing out a new J&J and there are a number of things that are different from our last J&J,” said Lines. “With more track time I am confident that we can be in the winner’s circle sooner rather than later.”

Lines’ next scheduled appearance will be this Saturday night (December 6) for the fourth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprint Series at Avalon Raceway in Geelong, Victoria.

In the 2008/09 season Lines is proudly supported by the following organisations: Holla-Fresh, Ad Trans, Maxwill Racing Engines, Camden Neon Signs, BR Motorsports, Torque Power, Cascade Cleaning Solutions, KTM Australia, and Spy Eyewear & Clothing.
