Lines Finishes WSS Speedweek Series in Good Form PDF Print E-mail

Although he didn’t make the best of starts to his World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Speedweek Series campaign, Steve Lines has managed to finish on a positive note by coming away with a fourth place feature race finish at the Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC) round last Wednesday night and then back it up with a fifth place finish at Premier Speedway (Warrnambool, VIC) last night.

The WSS Speedweek Series kicked off at Speedway City (Adelaide, SA) on Boxing Night and Lines finished 12th in feature race and the following two nights, Murray Bridge Speedway (Murray Bridge, SA) and Borderline Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA), he was unable to record strong results. Lines didn’t finish the feature race at Murray Bridge due to brake issues aboard his VIC # 45 H.A. Young Plumbing / Camden Neon Signs backed J&J while running strongly in contention for the top five result and then he disappointingly failed to transfer into the feature race from the B-main at his home track Borderline Speedway.

Lines turned his WSS Speedweek Series fortunes around at both the Avalon Raceway and Premier Speedway rounds of the WSS Speedweek Series by qualifying strongly and making it through into the ‘Top 8’ pole shootout dash and that set up his pair of top five feature race results.

“Qualifying is so important when it comes to the World Series format and if you have a bad time trial draw and don’t post a good time it consequently leaves you chasing your tail all night and that was exactly what happened in the opening three nights,” Lines explained. “Although our time trial draws at Avalon Raceway and Premier Speedway weren’t too good we still managed to record some respectable times and that went a long way towards establishing a good starting spot for the feature race and ultimately our end result.”

Throughout the WSS Speedweek Series Lines and his team worked on a number of setup changes and a lot of those changes paid dividends in the final two rounds.

“We did a bit of experimenting over the past week with our setups and we were very happy with the results that it brought and the knowledge that we gained and it’s going to go a long way towards achieving better results in the future,” added Lines.

This Sunday (January 3) Lines will fight it out for the South Australian Title at Murray Bridge Speedway and it is an event where he is shooting for a hat trick of wins. The late allocation of the South Australian Title forced Lines to reshuffle his season schedule of contesting this weekend’s 50K to win Scott Darley Memorial at Parramatta City Raceway.

“To pick up my third South Australian Title is my sole focus tomorrow night,” he commented. “It’s going to be tough with the likes of USA’s Craig Dollansky, David Murcott and co in the field but I’m confident we have what it takes to get the job done.”
